Dan Cruickshank: A History of Architecture in 100 Buildings at Anson Rooms

  • Ansons Rooms Richmond Buildings Queen's Road Bristol (map)

Dan Cruickshank is an author, renowned architectural historian and broadcaster. His bestselling books include Around the World in Eighty Treasures, journeying through time and place, from the ancient Egyptian pyramids to the soaring skyscrapers of Manhattan. In 100 Buildings he explores the most inspirational and characterful creations in world architecture in that unique, gently eccentric and donnish manner which has endeared him to millions on TV.

His selection includes Palmyra, destroyed by Isis, plus many of the world’s best known buildings that represent key or pioneering moments in architectural history, such as the Pantheon in Rome, Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, the Taj Mahal in Agra and the Forbidden City in Beijing. But he also covers less obvious and more surprising structures, the generally unsung heroes of an endlessly fascinating story – buildings like Oriel Chambers in Liverpool and the Narkomfin Apartment Building in Moscow.
