Minerva Series: The Future of Sustainable Construction

  • University of Bath The Avenue Bath (map)

Description

Construction is not sustainable. The construction and use of buildings is responsible for approximately half of UK’s carbon footprint, but are we doing enough to tackle this challenge? In an effort to address our environmental impact, we have been changing how we use our buildings, but this change has unsustainable consequences for the people who live in these buildings. Have we forgotten why we build?

Dr Dan Maskell will explore different ways of innovating within construction and share his vision of a sustainable future. He will present innovation in using a range of sustainable construction materials including straw bale and mud that could be used to build our homes. Understanding these materials may also be the key to improving our health and wellbeing where we live and work. The responsibility of a sustainable future is all of ours, and the key to sustainable construction is to centre the design of our built environment on us.
