Wellbeing and Mental Health

A good company is only as good as its people; and their wellbeing is important.

At the end of 2019 we held a series of group discussion sessions where we left the office for a couple of hours and took the time to talk about Wellbeing and Mental Health. Over three voluntary sessions we were pleased to have universal attendance and engagement.  In these we discussed various issues including stress, anxiety, our various coping mechanisms, and helpful metaphors for considering mental health such as the stress bucket and how to effectively listen to each other using Active Listening techniques – focussing on empathy rather than sympathy.

Two of our members of staff attended MHFA England courses which helped inform and shape the discussions and each of our Associates have pledged to be Mental Health Champions. This is in addition to our well established ‘Fika’ sessions where, supplementary to the formal yearly review, every member of SRA has the chance to go for a less formal catch up each quarter with an Associate for an open chat and a coffee (or hot chocolate).

Below you can watch a short video which shows the post-its from the session of all the things which make us stressed and the ways in which we relax and try to deal with it.

On International Mentoring day we thought it worth reflecting on how important the people that make up our business are to our success and how important it is that we listen to one another.
