IKEA Reading opens its doors to the public
/After only 40 weeks under construction IKEA opens their first new UK store in 7 years. We have been working closely with IKEA for 25 years, and have designed and built 12 new stores for them. Their latest development in Reading sits on a 5 hectare site with a store in excess of 32,000sqm and a new multi-level car park providing spaces for approximately 1,000 cars.
On Thursday 14 July the waiting was over. There is nothing quite like the opening of a new IKEA store, and IKEA Reading was no exception. Excited shoppers were ushered in with cheers from staff. To commemorate the occasion Nicola Clase, Swedish Ambassador to the UK, gave a speech. There was singing, which has become part of the IKEA opening tradition. For customers and staff the whole event made for a memorable day.
For Gillian Drakeford, IKEA UK Country Manager it marked the start of a significant period of growth for the business, with new stores planned for the coming years.
