NEWBRIDGE ROAD

The developer wanted exciting plans for purpose-built townhouses and cluster apartments for 264 students. However the site, which had been an old quarry, had several challenges, a significant one being that it had a seven metre drop from one side to the other. Any solution would also have to be sensitive to its setting within the World Heritage City of Bath.

SRA proposed to turn the slope into an advantage. In our design we exploited the difference in levels by incorporating undercroft parking. Softened by attractive landscaping, it would enhance both the development’s aesthetics and value.

The scale, placement and design of the buildings also had to be calculated to maximise value. Integration with existing local pedestrian and cycle networks would ensure it remained harmonious with its surroundings.
