Janine Mariott, Public Engagement Manager at Arnos Vale Cemetery,  talks about the residents, history and architecture of this grand Victorian cemetery. In association with the Museum of Bath Architecture's 2018 exhibition: Building Memory.

Arnos Vale is a ‘secret world’ –  a unique heritage site in the heart of Bristol with 45 green acres of spectacular Victorian Garden Cemetery. It was established in 1837, with it first burial in 1839. It was laid out as an Arcadian landscape with buildings by Charles Underwood. It is Grade II* listed.

The cemetery includes a number of listed buildings and monuments, including the Grade II* listed Church of England Mortuary Chapel, Nonconformist Mortuary Chapel, and entrance lodges and gates and screen walls to the main entrance.
