The Genesis Trust is a Bath-based charity set up to help vulnerable people overcome poverty and hardship. Currently operating from temporary accommodation, they require a permanent home to improve their accessibility and bring all of their services together under one roof. The purpose–built centre will include a shop, life-skills training area and a restoration workshop, continuing the area’s long history of craft activities. It will enable the charity to provide new opportunities for its clients to move from dependence to independence.
As a charity serving those who have fallen on hard times, it is important that the design of the facility is modest, welcoming and accommodating; communicating the charity’s values. The exterior of the building takes inspiration in both form and material palette from the immediate surroundings and is intended to be a humble but valuable addition to the streetscape.
