Winner of Innovation and Value award

We are delighted to announce that the new IT and Medical Records building at Bath’s Royal United Hospital won two Constructing Excellence Awards: ‘Innovation’ and ‘Value’.

Presented at a prestigious ceremony last Friday, here’s what the judges had to say:

SRA Architects have used a whole team approach to bring together all the specialist expertise needed to develop a building system fit for the 21st century. The system, based upon Open Architecture, separates construction of the building shell from the fitting out and thus facilitates fast and economic construction, but at the same time providing the client with complete control over decision about all they see and use.
— Judge’s comment on presenting award for innovation

This winning entry is truly exceptional. It is a project which has demonstrated that by questioning all factors involved in developing and constructing a building, new and more economic solutions can be introduced.

Value was added by turning the procurement process on its head, using a whole team approach to bring together all parties who could contribute to improving the building process at every stage. In addition value was looked at in terms of whole life cost not just capital cost. The flexibility of the design facilitates future adaptation.
