Well done to Fiona and Julie!

A chilly, hilly 10K run at Longleat was the order of the day for Fiona and Julie, yesterday!

Starting in front of Longleat House the race takes in the estates' private, and traffic-free roads, with only a short excursion of 400m on public highways as the runners pass the Bath Arms pub before the final mile downhill to the finish.

A glass half full celebration!

Jacob shares his holiday snaps

My brother, a friend and I all travelled from Bristol to the mountains of Tignes-Val D’Isere for a few days of hard skiing. Unfortunately, most of the snow arrived as we were leaving, but the conditions on top of the mountains were still good and we managed to get a good deal of fresh air and our fair share of apres-ski at the same time!

A little bit reflective

A note from Jane

It is probably because we are coming to the end of the year. Maybe also because my life is on the brink of a momentous change (#feelingoutofcontrol). But I have been reflecting a little bit.

A lot has changed in the last year. Well the last 2 years actually. We have moved from being Stubbs Rich (no, I'm not going to buy donuts) to SRA. I have transitioned from being Nick Stubbs' PA (even though I had a flashback of the Carbon Cartoon today when someone contacted me about it) to being Brand Manager.

It is on this point I want to linger because I want to thank the Partners for giving me the opportunity to spread my wings and help them to implement a renewed brand. SRA has for years (even before 'SRA') stood for some wonderful values and a great people-focused culture. All I did was help to draw this out so it defines us.

I am absolutely convinced that when an organisation has a brand they are comfortable with, and confident in, it can be a springboard from which a purposeful business can flourish. And I honestly believe that SRA can feel proud that they have these attributes.

These aren't my
'leaving thoughts', because I plan on being back at the end of 2017. And yet, I know that good brands don't stand still (like flourishing businesses don't). If a brand 'stands still' it actually goes backwards. Therefore I am delighted that the Partners' took the decision to ask both Karen and Jacob to continue to strengthen and position the SRA brand in new places. I am excited to see how things move forward. I am excited to watch from the sideline for a few months. I am excited to find out about all the changes that will take place in the next year.

Finally, thanks to all the parents who have passed on their wisdom and practical advice!

I wish you all the very best. And here's to a great Christmas!

Dressing sustainably on Christmas Jumper Day

Jane shares a few tips on how to enjoy a more sustainable Chirstmas Jumper Day

As much as I'm anticipating the fun and festivities of Christmas Jumper Day and the support it raises for Save the Children, I was bothered about the one-day-a-year wearing of a jumper made by the hands of who-knows-who and which may sit in landfill for who-knows-how-long. I contacted LoveYourClothes for some advice, so thought I'd share it ...

Obtaining your Christmas Jumper

  • Check out local charity shops for pre-loved Christmas jumpers, rather than buying new.
(Apparently extending the life of clothing by just three months would lead to a 5-10% reduction in their carbon, water and waste footprints.)

  • Check out Oxfam's online shop

After Christmas Jumper Day

It’s also important to dispose of the jumper in the best way once you’re finished with it – every year, 350,000 tonnes of clothing needlessly goes to landfill when it can be reused or recycled.
  • Wear it for the whole of January (unlikely), or once a year for the next 30 years (also highly unlikely) #30Wears

  • Take to charity shop for someone to wear next year

  • Take heed of the other advice from LoveYourClothes on what to do with your pre-loved clothing

Just little something to think about this year!

Christmas Jumper Day

It won't be long before we are putting on those festive jumpers, this time raising money for Save the Children as part of their National Christmas Jumper Day.

Get searching your wardrobe for that annual woolly jumper, or get blinging the one you wear most weekends. We want to see you in it on Friday 16 December!  More details to follow.

Fred's lovely wife, Jacika got her visa approved!

A note from Fred:

We got our visa approved last night for Jacika to live in England!
Just wanted to say thank you for all the support, advice from the visa veterans and for keeping me busy (Andy!) over the past six months or so – it means so much more to me than I can say with a couple of tubs of Celebrations!

Congratulations Fred, that's great news! We are delighted!

Anita's retirement party ... check out the pics!

Firstly a little note from Anita ...

Dear All
Thank you SO much to everyone who was able to come to my party last night, I had an amazing time.

Some extra special thank you’s go to...
David, John and Mike for providing the party and Emma for organising it. Jane for putting the presentation together and Andrew for the music.

I love my cheeseboard, I have never had one big enough to put out all the cheeses I like before!

I am going to read my card when I am on holiday, sat on a beach with a box of tissues by my side and a glass of something in my hand!😉

So thank you once again my SRA family.
Anita xx

Julie completes epic London to Paris bike ride

Well done Julie for completing 300 miles, across 2 countries, in only 4 days!

The London to Paris Bike Ride gives plenty of opportunity to have fun, meet new people, get fit and raise money for charity.

Talk to Julie or Emily who have both completed the ride before, and check out this video if you are interested in giving it a go in 2017.
